On the Danger of a Single Solution
I was speaking to a friend today about the danger of a single solution. (I was reminded of Chimamanda Adichie's famous TED talk, The Danger of a Single Story).
"The modern university trains us to be ideological rather than dialogical.
Taking an absolute position to win the debate.
Judging people through black and white categories.
Seeing the world through the lens of excel and powerpoint.
Running after cold-blooded targets and numbers.
Trappend in disciplinary boundaries.
Othering, labelling and blaming others.
Cancelling and erasing.
No empathy,
No deep listening,
No capacity to engage the sacred,
No capacity to hold paradox,
No humble self-reflection,
No spirit of deep co-creation,
No willingness to say I don’t know.
We are left with heartless one-dimensional intellectuals."
