Unschooling Science
I just had a conversation with a friend who has recently joined an NCERT committee for science curriculum and textbooks. He asked me what I would include. I suggested:
"To be considered relevant and innovative for our times, every visionary education project should have a pedagogy to engage with the larger money system, in other words, interrogate and re-imagine notions of education and economy. This has to go beyond current notions of financial literacy, job readiness, etc. and cover at least three critical dimensions: 1) a pedagogy which will help us to redefine our relationship with money. it should especially focus on delinking money (bank balance, salary, consumption patterns) from our sense of self-worth and success; 2) a pedagogy which will help us to explore how to re-build our local economies and to shift from deadlihoods to alivelihoods careers; 3) a pedagogy which re-orients our worldviews and sense of purpose back to the notion of seva (sacred service), gift culture, inter-connectedness and a profound sensibility of care for the commons. Without these poly-pedagogies, there is not really much hope for dealing with the roots of the poly-crises.”
