Istemal: For Climate Change

In the spirit of the Slow Fashion movement, Istemaal is a cloth re-purposing project started to provide a possible solution towards the waste and over-consumption generated by Fast Fashion industry, one of the most polluting industries in the world. Over 92 million tonnes of clothing are burned or end up in a landfill every year. Our closets are overflowing with clothes and yet we keep buying more and more. While many NGOs are now working to make bags out of waste clothes, we would like to make clothes out of them and resell those. Istemaal was started in Shikshantar by three young women in Udaipur - Mahi, Dviti and Aashvi - based on their interest in fashion and their concern for climate change. They would like to invite more young people to go beyond talking and worrying about climate change and start doing real work on the ground to reduce emissions in their cities.
